The boys in Jasper's raft
This past weekend we hosted the Carson and Weston's 2nd Birthday Extravaganza at our house with my parents, Billy's parents and my sister. It was a wonderful weekend to hang out with family and celebrate our boys. My sister got in Friday morning and after gymnastics we headed to the airport to pick her up. The boys and I waned to show her a good time so we took her to Costco :). She got to see the "Costco Effect" first hand when the boys split a hot dog. Yes, these are the same boys that are super picky eaters and don't eat a ton. It was great to have my sister here on Friday so she could entertain the boys while I got dinner together and did some cleaning. Billy's parents and my parents both got in late on Friday night, so we just had some drinks and chatted while the boys were in bed. Saturday morning began the real festivities first with a trip to the old Holiday Inn pool. The boys loved swimming around and Carson jumped off the side of the pool like 20 times. He jabbered at my sister to make sure that she was video tapping him as he jumped to me. The weather was beautiful on Saturday so we enjoyed our walk down to the pool and back and then the boys played outside after lunch too. They helped Billy pick up Jasper poop in the backyard. Weston points to it and says "poo," while Carson "helps" Billy with the shovel. The house was quite during nap time so Billy and I got to relax. I am finishing up the third book in the Dragon Tattoo series so I got to read some of that.
After nap time the boys got up and put on their new Elmo birthday shirts with their names on them and the number 2. I got them off of Etsy and I really like them, especially since they are not white, but they are unfortunately a little short. Oh well, they were good for one day. We had pizza for dinner (a family favorite) and then sang Happy Birthday first to Carson and then Weston. These were like their 5th cupcakes of the week so as soon as we started singing they got really excited and just wanted to eat their cupcake. Both boys actually blew out their own candles. It was pretty cute. After dessert we headed to the basement to open some presents and for the boys to wow is with their trapeze skills. For those of you that don't know Billy put up two trapeze bars in our basement and the boys LOVE practicing Cirque du Soleil. As their nanny put it "you should send Cirque du Soleil a video of them and say that they need to be put in the recruiting class of 2028." They are so fun to watch. Because of this new toy they both can say dizzy really well. The festivities continued even after the little ones went to bed. We continued our new family tradition of playing games for scratch tickets. Nobody won big, but we all had a nice time.
On Sunday we woke up and had a nice, big breakfast and got ready for the boys' first real movie in the theater! We went to the Overland Park Cinema (cheap theater) and saw the Muppet Movie. It is great because the boys were free and you get a bag of popcorn and a drink with your admission. We took the boys in the theater and after a minute of figuring out how they could see best, Weston ended up on my dad's lap and Carson sat on Billy's lap. The boys actually did AWESOME in the movie, way better than I imagined.
The problems started when towards the end of the movie Weston started getting antsy. So he bounced around on laps until he was full on standing in the aisle and walking in other rows. Just about that time I noticed that he needed a diaper change. Billy being the great Dad that he is offered to take him to the car and change him. When they got back into the theater Billy sat down next to me and of course Weston wanted to get down to move around. Not long after that I heard a scream from Weston and saw him laying in the aisle with Carson on top of him (Carson was actually trying to help him up - he is such a great "big brother"). When I finally pulled Carson off of him and got him outside I saw a ton of blood in his mouth. My first thought was that he was missing a tooth. Nope, he still had all of his teeth. After sending my sister into the theater to get Billy and then having all of the grandparents come out, we headed for the car to survey the damage. We saw a gash on his lip almost up to his nose. We decided that he definitely needed medical attention. So my parents and sister took Carson home while Billy and I took Weston to the ER. It was a little past nap time, so he actually fell asleep in the car. He continued to sleep until the doctor had almost finished putting the glue on his lip. Our first ER visit seemed to take a while, but really wasn't that bad. Weston did great and in about an hour and a half we were headed home. Weston was such a TROOPER during this whole ordeal. He didn't even nap when we got home, just watched Elmo with his Ga Ga. We even took him to dinner at Spaghetti Factory where he did great. Billy pulled the glue off about a week later and after putting some stuff on the area for a couple days it looks really good. Just another way people will be able to tell them apart.
A huge thank you to our families who traveled to Boise to hang out with us, we had a blast!
